  • Book Authored by "Santosh G Nair "

At the young age of 16 Santosh authored a book “THE TRADITIONAL FACETS OF INDIAN DANCE” a book on all classical dances of India printed and published on October 2007 released by Sri. Kavitha Prasad, Director of Cultural Development, Hyderabad.

  • Features

This book has been written on the basis of my familiarity of learning a dance form, ‘Bharatanatyam’. As the title “Traditional Facets of Indian Dance” aptly suggests, this book covers a bird’s eye view of all the existing classical dances. I have only included the details and general terminology of select dance forms as is necessary for the understanding of amateur dancers, just to create awareness about the rich culture and tradition of India. Some photographs have been provided as visual representation– like seven classical dances, hand gestures representing the incarnations, hand gestures representing Gods and Goddess, Navarasas.

This book is prepared with the intention of extending an insight into the oral traditions of the recognized classical dance styles and how each style evolved from a common Indian heritage easily understood by the beginners as well as to the art lovers and general public too. Apart from this Navarasas and Dashavataram have been covered briefly. 108 Karanas with photographs and introduction of some famous Gurus and their institutions are given in this book. I feel contented if this book is beneficial to at least a few. I take it for granted that the art lovers would appreciate my first step, providing support, overlooking the flaws and bestowing me with blessings.

    Kum. Santosh G Nair.
